A role-play platform with a fast start
Botify AI is a chatbot platform for role-play characters: companions sit alongside game-style simulators, RPG bots and humor bots. It runs on its website and as Android and iOS apps. You sign up from the Sign In button at the top right, with Google sign-in available, and the process reportedly takes under a minute. Your profile then counts the messages you have sent, the bots you have created and the likes you have received.
User experience scores Fair, its best result, so getting around is easy. Everything you talk to is a character run by an AI model, with a persona written by whoever made it. Its Google Play listing notes that the app contains ads, which is worth knowing before you settle in on the free plan.
Chat that stays filtered and shallow
Chat is the weakest part of an app built on chat, and Chat quality scores Poor. Most conversations are safe for work, and characters reportedly steer away from mature topics even when their labels suggest otherwise, so Advanced content also scores Poor. Controls in the chat let you like or dislike messages, pick the model, mute and share. The default model is labelled Basic, and the special role-play models need the Ultra plan.
Bots collect memories as you talk, and you can read them under Bot Memory. How far back those memories reach is not stated, and Botify is not on our long-term memory list, so check what a character has kept before you invest in a long story. If memory across weeks matters to you, the apps on that list are a better place to start.
Energy-priced media, plenty of voices, no calls
Pictures and motion cost Energy, the in-app currency. Animating a character's photo costs 100 Energy, and media in the chat costs at least 100 Energy, more than the 50 a new account starts with. There is no standalone image generator and no gallery of your pictures, so Image quality and Generative tools both score Poor, and there is no video. There are no phone calls either.
Voice is the stronger extra. There is a large set of voice samples to choose from, and any voice can go on any character regardless of gender. Features still scores Poor overall, since there is little here beyond text, voice and a few paid animations.
A character maker that does half the work
Create AI Character starts with a type, such as Girlfriend, Boyfriend, Goth Queen, Vampire Lord, Best Friend or Waifu, and the app proposes a random personality you can edit. For the look, you upload an image or generate one from a prompt, which returns a photo option and an anime option. You then set a name and pronouns, personality and backstory, behavior instructions, a greeting and a photo style.
New characters are public, and you edit one later from the chat menu under Edit Bot. Appearance options are few, so Customization scores only Fair, and Characters is Fair as well. The maker is quick rather than deep: it gets a character talking in minutes, but there is not much to fine-tune about its look afterwards.
Premium, Ultra and the weekly trap
As of September 2026, Botify sells two plans in US dollars. Premium costs $7.99 a week or $29.99 a year but leaves out the special models. Ultra costs $14.99 a week or $79.99 a year, shown as 90% off, and adds the role-play and Ultra models, photos and voices, and unlimited messages. Energy is also sold without a plan and pays for characters, media and extra messages, though pack prices are not stated.
The billing period matters more than the plan. Paid weekly, Premium comes to about $35 a month and Ultra to about $65 a month, which is steep for an app whose chat scores Poor. Paid yearly, the same plans work out to about $2.50 and $6.67 a month. A heavy user who animates photos will buy Energy on top, though free users can reportedly earn some. Value for money scores Fair, and only the yearly prices earn it.
